Dutiful Dogs: A to Z Blogging Challenge

Geronimo and Me
My Mom and I had a dog when I was growing up...a chihuahua.  Well, actually, Scampy was half terrier and half chihuahua.  He was white with brown spots.  I loved him dearly, and he loved me.  One stormy night (seriously) he got out of the yard, ran away, and we never saw him again.  I was crushed!  I remember lying in his bed near the heat register, all curled up crying for him.

Soon after, we purchased another mixed-breed chihuahua, and named him Geronimo.  He stood up to any dog, no matter how tall.  He filled the emptiness that Scampy left.

Dogs make wonderful pets.  Below are some quotes from a book called, simply, "Dogs" collected by Catherine Johnson.  It is a nostalgic look into the world of dogs...photos of dogs with their masters.  Some taken almost 100 years ago.  You must see it to appreciate it!

  1. I am glad you got Geronimo, but I was heartbroken abut Scampy :( Duke and Dolly look a mischievous pair! Kalla looks really unusual, I am wondering if she is a Patagonian breed?

I love cats and dogs, Jar, and all animals, but only have cats at present as work takes me out of the house for 11-12 hours at a time and it wouldn't be fair on a dog!

    1. I never did find out what breed she was. Yep, that's why we have cats now...we are a very busy family, and it wouldn't be fair to the dogs. Cats are easy care creatures. Thanks for stopping by, Joanna!

  7. Aw, we had quite a few dogs as a kid, but my sister's dog sounds a little like your Geronimo. Peck, a little tiny terrier jumped into the Colorado River where my dad was swimming to "rescue" him. Dad ended up having to swim out and save the dog when he got caught in a current!
