  1. Great L post and quotes! I Lincoln's quote about people being as happy as they make their minds up to be. So true, but easier said than done.

So glad you stopped by Depression Cookies. I'm your newest follower.

    1. Thanks for joining us, Tia...yes, you are right, it is easier said than done. It makes me wonder if people back then were stronger, and could set their minds to what needed to be done, without "falling apart" as we tend to do these days!

    2. Maybe a little less stung out those days, too. I think all this technology has added pressure and time suckers to our everyday life. The pace is exhausting sometimes.

  5. My dad had a great many quotes from Abe Lincoln hanging on the wall above his computer when I was a kid.

I love this Thomas Jefferson Quote:

"Now let us see what the present primary schools cost us, on the supposition that all the children of 10. 11. & 12. years old are, as they ought to be, at school: and, if they are not, so much the work is the system; for they will be untaught, and their ignorance & vices will, in future life cost us much dearer in their consequences, than it would have done, in their correction, by a good education."

    1. Thanks for the quote, Sara! Education is so important. That is why we decided to home educate our children...to make sure they were getting the specialized help they needed. It's interesting to note that the majority of our Founding Fathers were home/self educated. I appreciate your visit today!

  6. I'm a new follower via the A to Z. I love your post.

But I do take offense at this quote: "It is impossible to govern rightly without God and the Bible."

While, as a Catholic, I do have a strong faith, not everyone believes the same way I do, nor I them. So I think it's best to keep God and the Bible out of the equation. It's fine if leaders allow their faith to guide them, but they cannot rule by it, nor should they. This is the what is dividing us as a people.

    1. Hi Nancy...and welcome! I understand your concerns, but history has shown that those governments that live according to God's laws create peace and freedom for their people. I'm sure you can think of examples to the contrary. Statistics show that the US has been heading downhill morally ever since prayer was taken out of our schools. I think that's what Lincoln was noticing even in his own day. Our Founding Fathers studied history, took note of the empires that rose and fell (Rome, etc) and then strove to avoid their fate.

  7. Impossible to govern rightly without God. First time I've ever heard that one. But it's so true.

  9. Great quotes! I like "Most folks are about as happy as they make their minds up to be." and "It is impossible to govern rightly without God and the Bible." In my opinion, taking God out of the equation puts us in a world of trouble. But that's just me. :D
