What's the Incessant Interest in pInterest? A to Z Blogging Challenge

I know, it's a stretch...but I couldn't fit it anywhere else!  Pinterest was a complete surprise to me.  I was interested in trying it, but didn't need another thing to occupy my time.  I heard incessant talk about it.  And then read Rachelle Gardener's post about how it could help my writing.
That did it!  I had to Initiate my interest by signing up...I was pleasantly surprised.  This is what my investigation uncovered:

• Signing up required connection with a Facebook or Twitter account, but the process was simple.
• Some category folders were set up initially to help you store visual images, so you weren't facing a blank slate.  You can always change or add to them.
• Pinterest makes it easy to 'pin' a visual to your 'categories', and, if you desire, you can comment on the photos you like.
• There are many categories available in which to browse.  If you don't
see what you like, just use the search box.  The sky is the limit...
• You can download a 'pin' which you can use to attach any visual you find on the Internet to your 'board.'

So, what's the big idea?  Does interest in Pinterest create idle imaginations?

This is what I discovered:

• It doesn't waste my time, but, makes it more productive.
• It's perfect for visual learners
• It helps categorize ideas, photos, lists, interests and projects.  Maybe you are planning a wedding, a shower, redecorating your home, or collecting story starters, or possibly buying a new wardrobe because you have lost weight.
• If you are not sure what gift to purchase for a friend...look them up on Pinterest.  Their 'style' will shine through, and you will have plenty of choices.

If you wish to join, you do need an INVITATION from someone who has an account.  Or, you can wait a few extra days if you don't, and they will send you one.  I'll be glad to send you an invite if you leave your contact info in the comment box below.  Contact me here on Pinterest, and see my collection of Inspirational sayings.

What have you enjoyed about Pinterest?  Or, why are you afraid to join the crowd?

  1. I've been enjoying Pinterest for the same reasons you mentioned, although I couldn't have said it as eloquently as you did! I guess I'm visual and like that method of organizing my interests. I can leave it for weeks and then come back and find tons of great ideas in a short time. So I agree - it's not as much of a time waster as I initially thought! It's also a great way of sharing ideas, recipes, etc. with other people - I can just tell them to find me on Pinterest!

    1. Well thank you, Daisy, for that compliment! I'm so glad you have found it to be a help instead of a distraction. It's a great way, as you have said, to interface with others, and describe your "style" in case others want to purchase a gift for you. Thanks for visiting today!

  2. I haven't joined yet, because I'm trying to finish my manuscript. But once I'm done, I'm planning to make a board for each of my novels. Can't wait.

  3. I'm still holding out. I'm afraid it will suck up more time than I'm willing to part with right now. There's always someday. . .

    1. It actually does not occupy as much of my time as expected, in fact, the benefits outweigh any perceived time loss. It's a brain organizing tool that is more useful than other social media outlets. I know when you do try it, you are going to love it! Enjoy the challenge!

  8. I really enjoy using Pinterest, mainly because there's been countless times when I've seen something fantastic and then forgotten where I saw it and couldn't find it again. It makes things much easier when everything's in one place.

Using it as a tool for writing inspiration had never really occurred to me before. Thanks for the suggestion!

  11. I haven't tried Pinterest yet and was also afraid it would take up too much time. I have enough trouble remembering to set up Tweets and trying to read through the A to Z posts. Sounds like it's worth the try though. Nothing ventured, noting gained. Right?

  12. I have one board on interest "Historical Fiction Books Worth Reading". It's excellent for plugging my blog. Also, someone above mentioned using it as a story board for a novel. That's a great idea and might be useful for my novel that I am starting within the next few weeks. Good work on "I" for the A-Z Blogging Challenge.
