Have you ever longed to live in another century? I have. Not that I am dissatisfied with who and where I am today, but, I'd like, just for a short while, to live in the Victorian/Edwardian Era...along with Jane Austen and the Bronte sisters, and, of course, Queen Victoria.
The times were not ideal, so what attracts me? Maybe it's the manners and dress, the architecture and the furnishings, or the dances and social gatherings. Come to think of it, my reasons are rather frivolous, which is not typical of me!
Below are some photos from that Era, and a few websites for you to peruse:

Galena, Il. antique shop |
Victorian Day Dress: V and A Museum, London |
A Lovely Garden in the Cotswolds, England |

Stopping by from the A-Z challenge and following now too. This has been so much fun hasn't it? Have a great weekend and a great final challenge day :)
ReplyDeleteIt has been, Martha...I'm almost sad it's over, if it weren't for all the things I've put aside for the Challenge. Thanks for following!
DeletePS - I think it would be so cool to visit the Victorian Era too!
ReplyDelete;-)
DeleteNope, can't say there is a period in history that I would like to visit.
ReplyDeleteI'm more interested in going forward into the future!
The pictures that you have posted are incredible to look upon!
I can appreciate your nostalgic yearning; I too have a yearning. Hope you will stop by and see what it is!

I'll take a peek, Betty! You are right, we shouldn't live in the past, but it's fun to visit once in a while...
DeleteI'm totally with you in the Victorian era. Of course, you want to be a member of the gentry, things were pretty hard for the poorer members of society.
ReplyDeleteIt's totally the fashion for me; all those bustle skirts, lace gloves and parasols - love it!
Yes, Angeline...it's the poor folks living situation that made the Victorian Era undesirable.
DeleteExcellent post! I would have loved to live during the Civil War/Wild West era or medieval times.
ReplyDeleteThe Civil War Era would have been a tough one to live through. I, too, have been fascinated with the Medieval Times. I suppose it would have been better to live in a castle than in the town as a commoner! Thanks for your thoughts, Amy!
DeleteMy mother adores the Victorian age. She's an old soul. I, however, am very modern. I wouldn't want to do without modern conveniences. Although I do think we could cover up a bit more, clothing wise. Maybe not corsets, but I'm not fond of seeing what young people wear under their clothes. ;)
ReplyDeleteYou are so right, jennifer...there is too much flesh exposed these days! Thanks for stopping by...only one more day!
DeleteI've always felt I was born in the wrong era...but like you it's probably for fairly frivolous reasons. :)
ReplyDeleteI noticed that a few of your pics in this post are from Galena IL. Such a small world. I worked in a restaurant there for my internship for culinary school. Talk about a funky little town! :) Fried Green Tomatoes. They've since moved the restaurant to a different location from where it was when I was there...but that's ok. That town has a TON of history!
Great to meet you with the A - Z!
It is a small world, Alicia...we ate at FGT when it was at its first location near the ski slopes. We probably saw each other! Thanks for stopping by...only one more day.
DeleteHow nostalgic. I love the movie "Midnight in Paris" for just this reason.
ReplyDeleteYou've made me curious...I'll need to check that movie out! Thanks for visiting...
DeleteWonderful post with beautiful pictures. I wouldn't mind doing a little time-traveling as long as I could come back home. Thanks for visiting my blog! A to Z has been fun and challenging. I'm already looking forward to next year!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Jess...and you are welcome. Yes, it's always good to come home...no place like it!
DeleteInteresting post, Jarm. I think I would actually like to visit the future--where medicine is less invasive and more effective; where transportation is quicker and cleaner.
ReplyDeleteYes, Pam, it looks like we are headed that way...too bad we need to give up other simple pleasures in exchange. There's something relaxing about a horse and buggy in contrast to a high speed train or plane...but we wouldn't get to our destination on time, would we? Thanks for your observations...hope to connect in the future!
DeleteI have always been fascinated by the flapper era (1920s) although I have no idea why. I have become more interested in the Victorian era with the advent of steampunk, but I don't know if it really counts since it's a hybrid.
ReplyDeleteJust swinging through. Thanks for stopping by my blog, and congrats on surviving the challenge. We did it!
Yes, we did! Tons of work, but worth it...
ReplyDeleteThe flapper Era is fascinating, but when I think of where it lead...to the Depression and World Wars...it makes me wonder if God was trying to tell folks something about their narcissistic ways.
Congrats to you, too, for finishing well!
